Members and guests are invited for no-host coffee and networking, and
getting involved in your local AWIS LA/VC chapter! You can meet some
current AWIS LA/VC members and get additional information about our

Theme: Unexpected.
The Moth is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling with the well known tag line "true stories told before a live audience." At the center of each performance is, of course, the story – and The Moth’s directors work with each storyteller to find, shape and present it. The organization achieves its mission through a variety of conduits, including live shows on the Mainstage in New York and on tour, workshops on storytelling, and in both its Podcast and the Moth Radio Hour. StorySLAMs are a very popular storytelling competitions where the stage is open to anyone with a story to tell on the night's theme. StorySLAMS are currently thriving in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Detroit.

AWIS 40th Anniversary Celebration
An Evening of Jazz at LACMA
Friday, July 22nd – 6pm
AWIS women got together on Friday, July 22nd to celebrate the 40th anniversary of AWIS National with an evening of jazz
at LACMA! Entrance was free and participants packed a picnic dinner to share.
Pianist,
composer and producer, John Beasley performed. His most recent album earned a 2010 Grammy
nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. Beasley has performed with
illustrious artists including Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Carly Simon, Barbra

An Afternoon of Wine Tasting at the Wine Detective in Pasadena
We had a wonderful afternoon at the Wine Detective learning all about wine tasting. This innovative wine bar uses automatic Enomatic wine dispensers to allow
tasting of 48 wines at any time. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming.

Back by popular demand, the AWIS ladies enjoyed a family friendly hike through Solstice Canyon in Malibu with family and guests. We returned to a lovely wooded trail leading to a 30 foot waterfall and the ruins of an old home totaling about a mile.
